South Africa unveil new Proteas odi kit

September 25, 2014 - adidas South Africa have unveiled the new One-Day International (ODI) kit for the South African national cricket team, The Proteas.

This season's kit will remain the traditional green and includes striking gold sleeves, collar and the renowned 3 stripes of adidas. The design of this jersey is all about the clean and elegant interpretation of the iconic Protea, symbolizing rebirth and rising from the ashes to align with the Proteas’ exciting new campaign, #ProteaFire.

"We are proud to once again partner with adidas who have designed a limited-overs jersey that matches the excellence of our Proteas”, commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.

“Combining two sophisticated and world-class brands in adidas and the Proteas is delightful,” he added.

The Proteas excelled in their recent tour of Zimbabwe in which they won an ODI tri-series beating Australia for the first time in a knock-out final match.

“Following the Proteas success in Zimbabwe, all roads now lead to Australasia where they will play against New Zealand and Australia before returning in February next year for the ICC Cricket World Cup,” Lorgat concluded.

Castle Lager Proteas captain, AB de Villiers, excited by the new design. “ Its always comforting to know that we are playing in kit which features some of the world’s leading technology and innovations,” he said. " Its also quite exciting for us a team to be playing in a kit that has embraced the Protea fire elements, a culture that we play by on the field. We have an important season coming up so its even more reassuring that we are supported by the best out on the field."

The jersey also features adidas’ new and innovative Climachill technology. This apparel technology has been introduced in other categories within adidas and uses titanium cooling dots strategically placed at keys areas on the body to help with cooling the core body temperature. This will ensure that the Proteas remain cool on the pitch.

"adidas have incorporated the tradition, values and spirit of the Proteas in this new jersey design, developed for all upcoming One-Day International games” said Gugu Ntuli , PR Manager at adidas South Africa. “We feel that adidas, in partnership with Cricket South Africa, have combined the essence of our national team to create something we and Proteas fans will all be proud of," added Ntuli.

The Proteas will first appear in their new jersey when they take on New Zealand in three One-Day Internationals this month.

AB DE VILLIERS @ #PROTEAFIRE

We are at the # ProteaFire launch. AB explains what Protea Fire means to the team: "It's when a player or the team performs really well under huge amounts of pressure. A great example is when Graeme walked out to bat with a broken hand in Australia, when Faf scored 100 on debut, when we saved the Test in Sri Lanka recently. All those moments
are Protea Fire."
